Hi BubbleBum Buddies,

We just came across a really interesting site reviewing the BubbleBum Inflatable Booster Seat, but there are some great articles and information so we thought we would share it with you. Its called ‘Nicolle’s Originals’ and she covers a range of topics so why not check it out. Here’s what she says about BubbleBum:

We use a five point harness car seat for our 4.5 year old who now weighs 42 pounds.  So, on our recent trip, we thought we would try a booster seat.  I found the Bubble Bum on amazon and bought one (I actually checked out their website as well- turns out it’s made from the stuff of life jackets).

It was AMAZING to fly with one car seat (little bro) and to have our older son’s seat deflated and rolled up in our luggage.  How easy to get through the airport!!

Once we got to the rental car, it blew right up and had all the right clips to make the car’s seatbelt adjust to the right places on our (bigger) little guy.  What a great invention!

Thanks Nicolle

Helpful Tips for a Safe Halloween

In blog | posted by: fintankelly

Halloween is just around the corner and it’s the season for adventuring to a haunted house, going to a costume party, visiting a pumpkin patch and, of course, trick or treating.  Unfortunately, the excitement can sometimes leave children and adults less careful, especially on Beggar’s Night.  Make this Halloween full of great memories and start by keeping your children safe. Here are 10 safety tips for trick or treating:

  1. Find a well-fitting costume.  The costume should fit properly to avoid any accidents like tripping over a long dress or cape. Make sure it’s comfortable since it will probably be worn for several hours. If a mask is worn, make sure the eye holes are big enough to see and provides adequate ventilation.  A scraped knee or bloody nose can really ruin the fun.
  2. Stand out in a crowd. Apply reflector tape to your child’s costume and have them carry a flash light or light stick. This will make them more visible to cars and helps you keep an eye on them if they get ahead of you or mixed in with a group of other children.
  3. Always trick or treat with an adult.  Children should always go trick or treating accompanied by a responsible adult (no matter what age of the children). If you have a larger group of children, make sure there are several parents along to supervise.
  4. Save treats for home.  Agree to save all candy until you can inspect their treat bag—it’s for their safety.  It’s very hard to wait with so much candy calling to them, but you need to make sure it’s untampered and safe for their consumption. You can sneak the good stuff while you’re at it!
  5. No porch light means no stopping.  Do not stop at a home with no porch light on.  This is the owner’s way of declining visitors for whatever reason.
  6. Find safe areas for trick or treating. Stick to neighborhoods with a lot of homes and good street lighting. This isn’t a time to roam new areas that you and your children are unfamiliar with.  If you do not feel your neighborhood is as safe as it should be, find a better one for your kids.
  7. Halloween “safe parties”.  Today many malls, churches, community centers and even the zoo sponsor Halloween parties. There is a lot of fun to be had in a totally safe environment.  They’ll leave the party with good loot, too.
  8. Stick to the curfew.  Most towns have a set time for trick or treating so the residents know when people will be coming and going.  Respect others by sticking to this time.
  9. Swap the door-to-door with a party at home.  If your kids are willing, skip the whole door-to-door routine and have a party at home.  Invite friends, put on spooky music, play games, serve a fun dinner like hot dogs or tacos and Halloween themed party snacks.  A party like this can be more fun than traipsing around in cold weather waiting for a Tootsie Roll.
  10. Have fun! Trick or Treating should be one of the great adventures of Halloween for kids.  It’s also a great time for families to spend time together. So relax, take lots of photos, have fun and be safe!

Have a Safe & Happy Halloween!

10 Tips to Help with Homework Time

In blog | posted by: fintankelly

If you’re like most families, homework time can be a real struggle.  It’s either hard to get your kids to buckle down and get the work done or it’s competing with multiple family activities.  With these helpful tips, homework can be less of a struggle and more manageable for you and your child:

  1. Set a Regular Time for Homework.  Figure out a time that works best for your child.  Some kids do better when they come home and do it immediately after school or after an hour of play.  Other children do homework better after dinnertime.  If you need to work around extracurricular activities, then the time might need to be adjusted slightly on those days.
  2. Pick a Place & Set the Scene.  Find a place in your home that is conducive to studying.  It needs to be quiet, well-lit and away from the hustle of a busy household.  Some kids work well in their bedrooms, while others prefer the kitchen table.  If you can find a place where they can maintain a desk, even better!
  3. Remove Distractions.  Turn off the TV, unplug from social media and phone calls and turn down the music.
  4. Stock-up on Supplies. Make sure your child is equipped with the proper supplies for doing homework.   It’s helpful to have pens, pencils, a pencil sharpener, erasers, a dictionary, calculator, a scissors and glue available for them.  Stock up during back-to-school time to get the best deals.
  5. Make Yourself Available.  Make the time to take your child to the library for needed resources and talk about school and learning activities in family conversations.  If your child has questions, be available to help out.  Look over completed assignments.
  6. Help Your Child Be Organized.  Help your child with a homework schedule.  Then assist in writing out assignments and keeping track of what’s due and when.  Make sure your child understands the assignments and what’s expected of them.
  7. Limit TV & Video Games.  Discuss how much time your child will get for TV and video games daily.  It’s proven that homework gets done faster when the TV is off.
  8. Give Praise.  Children need encouragement.  Praise them when their work is done and completed correctly.  Kids respond well to motivating and encouraging words.
  9. Take a Break When Necessary.  If your child seems frustrated or tired, let them take a break and come back to it when they’re ready.
  10. Make Homework Fun.  By setting the scene and providing help and encouragement, homework can be less of a burden for your kids.  Consider a sticker chart for each day your child finishes his/her homework on time and does a good job.  Rewards can be something small or a family outing to the park or maybe visiting a museum.

Good Luck & Happy Homework!
