With BubbleBum, you can easily fit three across the back seat provided that there are enough 3 point seat belts to restrain the children. You can also fit 2 larger harnessed car seats and a BubbleBum across the back of most cars.

We have one colour scheme at present which has been tested by 100 children. 98% of the children (equally mixed boys and girls) chose the colour scheme.
We will have other colours but not until 2011.

The BubbleBum inflates in less than 30 seconds by blowing into the valve at the rear of the seat. When the seat has been inflated more than twice, it is even easier as the seat tries to self inflate. Be sure to close the valve when inflated and also when deflated.

It is not recommended that a child be held responsible for their own passenger safety. While a child would have the ability to inflate the seat, an adult should always ensure that the BubbleBum is fully inflated and that the valve is closed.

BubbleBum has been tested and approved to the ECE R44.04 standard and crash tested to meet the USA FMVSS213 standards. As with all car seats, read the instructions carefully and email us or call us if you have any concerns!

Any car seat that has been damaged or involved in a crash should be replaced as there could be damage to the seat which would affect the performance of the seat in a crash. We have gained our approval R44.04 in the deflated state for piece of mind, but the seat should not be used if punctured.

Only if you know the history of the seat and are confident that the seat has not been abused or involved in a crash.

The expiration date for any car seat is maximum 6 years therefore check the age of the seat before use.

A child should meet ALL of the following requirements in order to use ANY booster seat:

• Age between 4 to 11
• Weigh between 15-36KGS
• Height up to 135cm or when child’s ears are above the back of the vehicle seat.
• It is recommended that you keep your child in the lowest Group car seat until the maximum weight allowance for that restraint before moving up to the next Group.

When children outgrow their forward facing seat (usually around15-18KGS) they should ride in booster seats in the back seat until the vehicle seat belt fits properly (lap belt should lie across the bony part of the pelvis/hips and the shoulder belt across the chest, never the face or throat). According to CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) data, belt positioning booster seats are more than twice as effective in reducing risk of injury when compared with seat belt alone.

Children should use a booster seat until the vehicle seat belt fits correctly, which is usually when they reach 4 feet 9 inches.

1. Sit with hips back against the vehicle seat with knees bending comfortably at the front edge of the seat.
2. Keep the lap belt low and tight on hips.
3. Place shoulder belt across the mid-chest and shoulder.
4. Ensure that a booster seat is secured in the vehicle when not in use as it can become a missile in a crash and cause injury to the other occupants.

The safest place depends on each car. Frontal airbags should not be used even with a booster seat as they can deploy at a speed of 200mph. Lap belts should not be used with booster seats. The rear seat, centre should be the safest place, but it depends on the type of seat and the car itself.

Booster seats should never be used in a rear facing vehicle seat, side facing vehicle seat or a jump seat.

The cover should not be removed as it forms an integral part of the performance of the seat. It can be surface washed with a mild detergent and air dried. Do not iron the cover. Do not tumble dry.

A helpful tip is to position the BubbleBum on a flat, firm surface taking care to remove any sharp objects. Open the valve and roll the BubbleBum to expel air. When you are happy that you can fit it back into the bag, close the valve and it is ready for storage.

While your BubbleBum can withstand high temperatures, we recommend that it is not left in extreme temperatures for prolonged periods of time.

Under NO circumstances is it safe to place the seat belt under the child’s arm or behind the child. If the seat belt does not fit snugly, your child is not old enough yet to use a backless booster seat.

No booster seat can be used with a lap belt therefore they cannot be used in an aeroplane. However, BubbleBum can be carried on board as hand luggage as it has no sharp edges and poses no risk to other passengers.

No. A backless booster is designed to spread the forces of a crash over the highest parts of the child’s body using the car seat belt. The seat belt in a car is designed to be used for adults and a child is not a small adult. Their weight is proportioned differently and their internal organs risk serious injury if the seatbelt is incorrectly positioned across the soft abdominal area. They also risk submarining if not securely positioned in the car seat belt. The greatest incidence of abdominal injury is among children 4 to 8 years old. According to researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, for children 4 to 7 years, booster seats reduce injury risk by 59% compared to seat belts alone.

It is recommended that children remain in the rear seating position until at least the age of 13 years old. A child is twice as likely to be injured in a frontal crash when seated in the front row seating.

BubbleBum is designed to position the seatbelt correctly in the event of a crash and prevent submarining of the Child. A cushion will slip out from under the child potentially causing greater injury to the child by submarining. A Bubblebum holds the seatbelt in position using positioning clips and has been crash tested for this purpose.

While we recommend that your child uses a five point harness car seat until the upper weight limit of the seat, your child is within the weight range to use a BubbleBum. It is much safer for your child to ride on a BubbleBum than in a seatbelt alone.

Your child must be at least 40lbs before using a booster seat. Please do not hurry to move up to the next group of car seats for your child.

We feel that the ideal age to start using a BubbleBum is 4 years upwards. This is because children under this age are more likely to be under the 40lbs weight requirement. However, a 3 year old will be safer on a BubbleBum than in a seatbelt alone.

R44.04 is the regulation that all car seats must meet for sale in the EU and other countries globally. The R44.04 approval means that BubbleBum has been crash tested and meets the EU standards. This approval can be found on the label on your BubbleBum.

This is the Federal requirement for car seats that are sold in the USA.
